Course Objective:
To familiarize students with effective ways of presenting their research to an audience of scientific peers. To prepare studens for their Masters degree project presentation.
Course Summary:
Students will be presenting on a topic related to the research objective chosen for their Masters project. In cases where a research project has not been decied upon, the student will choose fromone of several they are considering for study. Topics must be approved by a course supervisor. The student must prepare (using Powerpoint) and present a seminar lasting 20 minutes on their topic of choice. Following the seminar, they will be required to field questions from the audience. To promote a professional environment, student presenters should dress in business casual attire.

Attendance:
Attendance is required and is directly related to performance. If an absence or tardiness (walking in on the middle of someone's presentation) occurs, the student will be dropped a half letter grade (ex. A to A-). Valid excuses for absences or tardiness such as a job interview or experiment must be confirmed by a letter from the interviewee or lab mentor and will be dealt with on a case by case basis.
Grading and evaluation:
The course grade will be based upon the student's 20 minute presentation and class participation. Class participation includes asking questions and attendance. Evaluation forms will be used to assess student seminars.

Presentation - 50%
Participation- 50%
