Current Research and Research Interests:
My research has involved analyzing the molecular mechanisms of the action of androgens in the progression of prostate cancer (CaP). More specifically, I have been studying the interactions between the androgen receptor (AR) and co-regulators (co-activators and co-repressors) in the CWR22 and CWR22R xenograft models of androgen-stimulated and castration-recurrent CaP. More recently, I have focused on studying the role of androgens in human prostate vasculature. We recently reported functional expression of AR in human prostate endothelial cells from benign prostate and CaP. Our goal is to understand the biological roles that androgen plays in the physiology of the human prostate endothelial cell under normal and pathological conditions. Additionally, we have focused on studying functional expression and subcellular distribution of the mammalian facilitative glucose transporters (GLUTs) in human breast and prostate cancers. Our goal is to understand the molecular mechanisms involved in the subcellular distribution of GLUT in a tumor cell model.
