Linda Cimino, RN, Awarded the Sandra C. Genco Excellence in Oncology Nursing Award at Roswell Park Cancer Institute

Selected by patients, families, doctors and faculty for her compassionate nursing

BUFFALO- Roswell Park Cancer Institute (RPCI) presented its fourth annual
Sandra C. Genco Excellence in Oncology Nursing Award to Linda Cimino, RN on Thursday, May 12. Cimino was selected for the competitive award by a nomination committee representing RPCI doctors, faculty, patients and their families.

Cimino has been an instrumental team member at RPCI since 1982, and a leader in RPCI’s Ambulatory Services centers since 1993. She also served as a Nursing Administrator in RPCI’s Gynecology Center; a nurse in the Pediatric Center and on both inpatient units; and has demonstrated skill, patience and leadership as a mentor for new nurses on her team.

“Linda’s commitment to compassionate nursing can be best seen through the individual attention and care that she gives to each of her patients,” said Ellen Zupa, Vice President of Nursing at RPCI. “She truly is a goodwill ambassador for Roswell Park Cancer Institute and she serves as an outstanding example for other oncology nurses.”

The award was established in memory of Sandra C. Genco, a longtime volunteer, donor and friend of the Institute. Mrs. Genco passed away in January 2002 after her own long struggle with cancer. Her family chose to establish a permanent endowed fund in her honor, which provides for the annual recognition program and its $1,500 honorarium. The award recognizes a Roswell Park Cancer Institute registered nurse who has made a positive difference in the lives of patients and their families by demonstrating compassion and respect for patients’ individual needs and goals.
