Roswell Park Researcher Recognized by AACR
BUFFALO, NY – The American Association for Cancer Research has recognized Andrea E. Varga, PhD, Department of Cancer Genetics, Roswell Park Cancer Institute (RPCI), as an outstanding woman in cancer research.
Dr. Varga joins 17 other cancer scientists who received a $1,000 scholarship from the AACR-Women in Cancer Research (WICR) Brigid G. Leventhal Scholar Award in Cancer Research. The awards are given to candidates who are scientists-in-training; first authors of meritorious scientific papers selected for presentation at AACR Conferences; and members of WICR.
Dr. Varga was recognized for her research presented at the November 2004 AACR meeting titled, “Chromatin, Chromosomes, and Cancer Epigenetics.” Dr. Varga is a postdoctoral fellow in the laboratory of Andrei Bakin, PhD, and her investigations have focused on the actin cytoskeleton in breast cancer.
