Three Pathologists Appointed at Roswell Park Cancer Institute
BUFFALO, NY – Paul Bogner, MD, George Deeb, MD, and Mihai Merzianu, MD, have been appointed to the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Roswell Park Cancer Institute (RPCI).
Dr. Bogner earned his medical degree (2000) with thesis honors from the University at Buffalo (UB) School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences; completed his residency in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology at the University at Michigan Medical Center (2004); and a fellowship in Oncologic Surgical Pathology (2005) at RPCI. He is certified by the American Board of Pathology, and has authored or co-authored several journal articles, abstracts and book chapters. His research interests focus on thoracic oncology, including the histological and molecular diagnosis, classification and staging of lung tumors.
Dr. Deeb earned his medical degree (1995) and completed residencies in Anatomic Pathology (1997) at the School of Medicine, Damascus University and in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology at UB (2003). He completed fellowships in Oncologic Surgical Pathology at RPCI (2004); and in Hematopathology at the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics (2005). Dr. Deeb is certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology by the American Board of Pathology, and has authored or co-authored more than 15 journal articles and abstracts. His research interests include defining clinically and diagnostically relevant molecular and immunophenotypic markers of hematopoietic malignancies.
Dr. Merzianu earned his medical degree (1995) followed by residency training in Pathology (1996-1999) at the University of Medicine, Timisoara, Romania; and in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology at St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital Center/Beth Israel Medical Center (2003). He completed fellowships in Oncologic Pathology (2004) at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center and in Hematopathology (2005) at the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center. He is certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology by the American Board of Pathology and has authored or co-authored several journal articles, abstracts and platform presentations. His research interests include head and neck neoplasms and neoplastic hematopathology.
The Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine is comprised of five divisions including Surgical Pathology, the Clinical Laboratory and several specialty labs, which all focus on the accurate diagnosis and treatment of cancer patients.
