Roswell Park Appoints Physicians

BUFFALO, NY – Alan K. Klitzke, MD, has been appointed to the Department of Diagnostic Radiology, and John Pollina, Jr., MD, has joined the faculty in the Department of Neurosurgery at Roswell Park Cancer Institute (RPCI).
Dr. Klitzke will provide diagnostic evaluations to patients using computed tomography (CT), medical ultrasound, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and nuclear medicine including image-guided biopsies and positron emission tomography (PET)/CT.
Dr. Klitzke earned his medical degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Medicine (1994); completed a general surgery internship at the University of Chicago (1995); additional training in surgery, urology and radiology (1995-2001); and completed residency training in Nuclear Medicine and Diagnostic Radiology (2005) through the Consortium Program in Nuclear Medicine at the University at Buffalo (UB) School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences. He completed a mini-fellowship in PET research at UB (2005) and a Fellowship in Abdominal Imaging at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation (2006). Dr. Klitzke also has served as Clinical Assistant Instructor in the UB Department of Nuclear Medicine.
Dr. Klitzke’s research interests include molecular imaging, endocrine organ imaging and therapeutics, renal tumor and prostate cancer imaging. He is a member of the American College of Nuclear Physicians, American College of Radiology, American Medical Association, American Roentgen Ray Society, Radiological Society of North America and the Society of Nuclear Medicine. Dr. Klitzke has authored or co-authored several peer-reviewed journal articles and abstracts.
Dr. Pollina will specialize in the treatment of patients involving the nervous system, with specialty interest in tumors of the spinal cord and column. He also has clinical interest in the use of Gamma Knife radiosurgery for the treatment of tumors and vascular malformations of the brain.
Dr. Pollina earned his medical degree (1994) and completed residency training (2001) at the UB School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences. He completed fellowship in Neurosurgical Oncology/Radiosurgery at Roswell Park. He has served as Assistant Professor of Neurosurgery at the UB School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences since 2001.
Dr. Pollina’s research interests include reconstructive surgical techniques for patients with tumors of the spine. He is a member of the American Medical Association, American Association of Neurological Surgeons, Congress of Neurological Surgeons and the Spine Arthroplasty Society. He has authored or co-authored several peer-reviewed journal articles and abstracts.
