Faculty Members Invited to Participate in National Meeting

BUFFALO, NY – Three members of the faculty of the Department of Medicine at Roswell Park Cancer Institute have been invited to participate in special sessions at the 48th Annual Meeting & Exposition of the American Society of Hematology (ASH), December 9-12, in Orlando, FL.
Asher Chanan-Khan, MD, will take part in a Satellite Symposium titled, “Optimizing Therapy of Multiple Myeloma: Role of Anthracyclines and Other Novel Agents,” Friday, December 8, from 6 to 10 pm. The panel of national experts will discuss therapies for multiple myeloma that include liposomal anthracyclines in both front-line stem cell sparing regimens and relapsed patients, with a special focus on the safety of these therapies and management of adverse effects.
Myron S. Czuczman, MD, was invited to write a chapter for the ASH Educational Program Book on “Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma,” titled “Controversies in Follicular Lymphoma: Who, What, When, Where, and Why?” which he will present in lecture form Saturday, December 9, from 7:30 to 9 am and from 4 to 5:30 pm. He will be featured in a Meet-the-Expert Session Sunday, December 10, from 11:15 am to
12:15 pm, titled, “Rituximab and Beyond: Current and Future Use of Antibodies in B-Cell Lymphoma.” On Monday, December 11 from 3:30 to 5:00 pm, Dr. Czuczman will be moderating an ASH oral session titled, “Targeted Therapy of NHL.” Dr. Czuczman served as the coordinating reviewer for all 2006 ASH annual meeting abstracts submitted under the category “Lymphoma: Therapy with Biologic Agents, excluding Pre-Clinical Models.”
Francisco Hernandez, MD, will take part in a Satellite Symposium titled, “Emerging Antibody-Based Therapies for Lymphoid Malignancies,” Friday,
December 8, from 6 to 10 pm. Dr. Hernandez will join specialists in a discussion of how monoclonal antibody therapy has revolutionized the treatment of lymphoma, what new agents will be used in the near future, and how scientific understanding will be used to optimize tomorrow’s therapies for non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma and chronic lymphocytic leukemia.
