Lung Cancer Resources (CCRC)
This resource guide is intended to provide general and supportive information about lung cancer. Lung cancers are classified based on how the cells look under a microscope. There are two main types of lung cancer:
- small cell (also called oat cell)
- non-small cell (includes adenocarcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, large cell carcinoma and several other less common types)

What You Need to Know About™ Lung Cancer - This National Cancer Institute (NCI) booklet introduces symptoms, diagnosis, and treatment of lung cancer. It also has information to help patients cope with the disease.

Cancer.Net™ provides timely, oncologist-approved information to help patients and families make informed health-care decisions, including information on lung cancer.

Screening and Prevention
National Cancer Institute (NCI) Physician Data Query (PDQ®): Lung Cancer Screening - NCI document details screening procedures that may be used in the detection of lung cancer. Screening tests are given when you have no cancer symptoms. Screening tests may be repeated on a regular basis. Document is available in patient or health professional version.
There is no standard or routine screening test for lung cancer. Screening for lung cancer is under study and there are screening clinical trials taking place in many parts of the country.
Roswell Park offers a High Risk Lung Cancer Screening Program for individuals who are at very high risk of developing lung cancer. Its purpose is to detect lung cancer at an early stage, when it is usually curable.
NCI PDQ®: Lung Cancer Prevention - NCI document details information on lung cancer and how often it occurs, describes lung cancer prevention methods, and gives current facts about which people or groups of people would most likely be helped by following lung cancer prevention methods. National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) Treatment Summaries for People with Cancer™: This consumer Website from the NCCN provides information on the way cancer is treated at the nation's leading cancer centers. Summaries are available for non-small cell lung cancer – early stage and non-small cell lung cancer – late stage. Summaries for small cell lung cancer are in development.

Lung Cancer Alliance - Lung Cancer Alliance is the only national non-profit organization dedicated solely to providing patient support and advocacy for people living with or at risk for the disease. Their mission is to lead the movement to reverse decades of stigma and neglect by empowering patients, elevating awareness and changing health policy.
Lung Cancer Online – The mission of The Lung Cancer Online Foundation (LCOF) is to improve the quality of care and quality of life for people with lung cancer by funding lung cancer research and providing information to patients and families via Lungcanceronline.org. Lungcanceronline.org is a comprehensive, annotated directory to Internet information and resources for patients and families.
Lungcancer.org - Lungcancer.org is a program of CancerCare, a national nonprofit organization that provides free, professional support services to anyone affected by lung cancer. Services include counseling, education, financial assistance and practical help, are provided by trained oncology social workers and are completely free of charge.
