Health Behavior
Mission
Our mission is to undertake the highest quality behavioral research in order to contribute to a rapid reduction in the burden of illness imposed by cancer. This mission is based on the logic that if we simply applied all that we already know about cancer – didn’t smoke, ate a healthy diet, protected ourselves from the sun and had regular checkups – we could reduce the number of cancer deaths by half.

The Department’s research focuses on understanding the many determinants and factors that influence tobacco use behaviors, vaccination for HPV, and participation in cancer screening. Members of our faculty are also involved in research to better understanding how cancer patients cope with their disease and therapy.
