He is the director of a NIH funded Center of Excellence in Tobacco Control Research which is evaluating the effectiveness of tobacco control policies adopted in different countries around the world.

Andrew Hyland, PhD
Research Scientist
Dr. Hyland directs the Survey Research and Data Acquisition Resource at Roswell Park. He has over 120 peer reviewed publications, is the PI on numerous grants and contracts, is a Senior Editor for the journal Tobacco Control, and leads the Roswell Park secondhand smoke research program, which was awarded the 2007 Global Smokefree Partnership Award for research excellence. full biography

Martin C. Mahoney, M.D., PhD
Director, Cancer Prevention & Detection Center, Employee Health Clinic. Research Scientist
Dr. Mahoney’s research focuses on examining cancer screening utilization and promotion; developing educational and training programs for physicians and non-physician providers, and the cost-effectiveness of various approaches to promoting the use of pharmacotherapy for smoking cessation in a Medicaid population. full biography

Richard J. O'Conner, PhD
Research Scientist
Dr. O'Conner is the Director of Tobacco Research Laboratory. The Laboratory serves to characterize popular products sold on the international market in terms of physical and design features, so as to provide greater insight into user-product interactions that may affect addiction and/or health outcomes. full biography

Mark J. Travers, PhD, MS
Research Scientist
Dr. Travers primary research focus is providing the scientific basis for smoke-free air policies by researching exposure to tobacco smoke pollution and evaluating the effects of smoke-free air policies. He has conducted the largest study of tobacco smoke pollution exposure in the hospitality industry and his research has been featured in debates over smoke-free air legislation in dozens of communities. full biography
Maansi Bansal-Travers, PhD

Dr. Bansal-Travers is currently developing and expanding the Communications Testing Lab in the Department of Health Behavior which focuses on testing materials, including print and television ads, using Web surveys, focus groups, and eye-tracking methodology, to help produce the most salient and effective health communications campaigns. full biography
Ernesto Sebrie, MD, MPH
Research Scientist
Dr. Sebrié’s primary interest is focused on the implementation and evaluation of effective tobacco control policies in Latin America and the Caribbean. He is currently working on a research project evaluating the impact of comprehensive smokefree public policies on cardiovascular events, as well as public beliefs, attitudes, and behaviors related to the policy. This is the first study to be conducted in a developing country and includes Uruguay, Panama and Argentina. full biography
